The Teslight lamp is unique in its design and functionality. Suspended in the air through the attractive power of two magnets, the lamp floats, creating an enchanting spectacle. The lamp's shape is meticulously designed to optimize lightness and the distance between the two magnets, emphasizing the floating effect without compromising its primary function as a source of light.
The lamp is realized through the use of CNC machined aluminum parts, a steel base, and a carbon fiber safety-tube. The technical specifications of the lamp have been carefully considered to ensure optimal performance. Positioned 180cm from the ground, the lamp provides a good diffusion of light without causing discomfort to the eyes. The lamp itself measures 8.5 cm in diameter and 20 cm in height, while the diffuser has a diameter of 9 cm. The base measures 12 cm in diameter and 15 cm in height.
The project, which started in 2009 and was completed in 2012 in Genova, Italy, underwent various tests and prototypes to achieve the final result. The team explored different types of magnets and lighting sources, eventually choosing the current combination for its superior performance regarding lightness and the distance between the two magnets. A LED solution was considered but ultimately discarded due to the large dimensions of the cooling system required for adequate lighting.
Tagged as a magnetic lamp, magnetic light, magnet, teslight, floating, suspension light, CNC, and light, Teslight is a testament to the innovative spirit of designers Andrea Bosio and Alessandro Ballestrero. Their dedication to pushing boundaries and challenging conventional design norms has resulted in a product that is not only functional but also a piece of art.
The Teslight lamp has been recognized for its exceptional design and innovation, winning the prestigious Platinum A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award in 2012. This award acknowledges world-class, highly innovative designs that showcase unmatched professionalism and contribute to societal wellbeing. Teslight, with its unique design and functionality, truly embodies these qualities, making it a defining aesthetic of its era.
